The new display for impact was finished in time for the German church planting conference Kevin and Carol and several from our church are attending this week-end. Kevin isn't in the picture, but he played a vital role in consulting and also supplying print-outs of various things we wanted to get ready for displaying.
Sunday church with Grandpa and Grandma Matthia. Devon is still showing the painful results of the very sunny Gold Rush Daze.
Danae was fulfilling a photogrophy class assignment on front campus.
Dalene caught her on the other end of the camera. :) The next day Danae found out that she passed her sophomore portfolio check. We praise the Lord for that! They missed getting a picture of her Daddy greeting her with a bouquet of roses for that occasion. :)
Devon and Donia got to be in the dorms for Opportunity Days and four extra days into Bible Conference. On Friday night everyone attended the Basketball Championship.
Enjoying the excitement in a very crowded setting.
Dalene was quite sick the last days of school with a fever over 101°F and a bad cough. There were others around suffering with similar symptoms. We thank the Lord for the grace He gave her to finish up. The roses were a greeting from her Daddy and siblings.
Grab 'n Go for lunch one day
Attending services together
A quick lunch date with Donia and Dalene (taking the picture)
Smiling in the rain during the second half of Bible Conference
Meeting for the last evening service. Dalene and I were talking on the phone right then. We are so spoiled with modern communication options. :)
Table games after the evening service with Erik, Laura, Danae, Devon and Dalene
Loading up on Thursday
Packed in like Sardines :)
The first afternoon was spent getting things moved up to the third story where they were esablished the new living quarters for this trip.
This bird was found "glued" to one of the chairs in the repair shop.
Finding useable furniture pieces was one project.
The workshop also had a big container of rainwater which had dripped through one of many leaks.
So, they constructed a shute to move the water down where they could access it for flushing toilets.
Relocating some more furniture pieces. The van was full, so Jona and Derek enjoyed a nice little trip on the caboose. :)
Drying a carpet they had cut out of a room.
Ready for a good night's sleep at the end of Day 1.
Getting ready for a new day (without impending room check :))
Full points for Room 328!
Breakfast anyone?
Grand Central: This is how it looked on the last day. 20 people were there to help!
Distributing Orientation Posters in all the stairwells for new workers. "House 2, 5th Floor"
It is exciting to see the changes that were accomplished during these days.
Jona and Derek had run out of buckets, so they constructed their own containers with old saucers they found at the bottom of old lampshades.
After a long day in the museum and a couple hours of driving, the travelers arrived in Corbin, Kentucky. Bradley had been there as a teenager on his way to BJ, and had happy memories of some great food. Since they skipped eating while they were in the museum, everyone was happy to enjoy some real American fried chicken and trimmings.
The wind felt like it was blowing off the ocean, fingers got cold and noses were running, but everyone still loved the late afternoon outing to a playground on the north side of Magdeburg. With three empty seats in our car, we droppe by Matthias to pick up their three youngest. It was a refreshing hour.
After a long day heading north, the travellers finally arrived at the Creation Museum. They had been given guest passes (what a wonderful blessing) by the pastor's family on Sunday, so they went in for the last hour of the day.
They enjoyed supper at the Cracker Barrel with a special dessert of old fashioned peppermint sticks.
After a good lunch, Bradley and the girls started the six-hour trip to Tennessee. Cookeville is about in the middle of the state. It rained all the way, but the girls loved the majesty of the Great Smoky Mountains and the low-hanging clouds. They got to the home they were to stay in just after six, thanks in part to the new time zone they entered. :)
Bradley and the girls spent Saturday's lunchtime with dear Friends from Germany who are in Spartanburg for a year. Andy is studying in an exchange program. He and Ellen, along with Liane and Linda, attended our church the year before they left. It was a great time of fellowship. The little puppy has been with the family for two weeks and was lots of fun to play with.
Mr. Rich planned spirit days for the school kids at home. The days started out with making spirit day posters, then decorating crazy hats, and on the last day, wearing their favorite colors. In the evening we were invited to Mr. Rich's apartment for pizza and games. The kids wore their hats Thursday, but I couldn't locate the camera. :(
Friday was favorite color day and for supper pizza and games at Mr. Rich's apartment.
Derek, Danielle and I were invited, too.
The kids got to help with making the pizza.
Setting up for supper
Yummy-looking!
Mr. Rich recently acquired a fish. The kids enjoyed watching him, feeding him, and helping to change the water.
Each child got a straw, which they promptly tried out in the bowl of clean water meant for the fish.
We played a fun card game after our yummy supper.
Crazy Hat Day pictures, one day later!
Danielle heard me tell the kids to be sure to bring their hats for pictures, and she ran to the basement to pick a hat out of the cupboard that she could bring.
Derek cut off the bottom of a new door to hang in our kitchen.
Dustin enjoys helping in the kitchen.
Spring tree work!
Derek shared his coat with Danielle who was cold in the icy March winds we were having.
The girls were back in normal school schedules, and the rest kept busy. For lunch on Wednesday the girls got to try Little Pigs Barbeque!
They did cross paths on campus a couple of times. Devon got to play tennis with Dalene.
Donia and Doreen each got to visit Dalene and Danae at work.
This is the crazy tree on the lot next to my parents' home.
Many got bad sunburns on this day, everywhere except for under their paint! Several of our kids are still in a lot of pain and discomfort having come from cold and wet Germany to summer-like weather!
Go, blue!!!!
Bradley got to campus about 2 p.m. and found the kids in a sea of blue! Dalene got him a wrap from Fastbreak!
Cheering--what fun!
Grandpa and Grandma Matthia were for blue of course, along with all of their offspring! :)
In the end, Red won for the first time and Blue is ready for a rematch in 4 years!
Chicken Tenders out on the stadium field.
After a wonderful faculty body at 7 p.m., everyone was invited to the stadium for a singspiration and challenge.
Aaron and Danae
Bradley with Donia and Doreen (who was really tired by this time)
Devon, Laura and Erik
Grandpa and Grandma Matthia -- night photography can make any lights look like fireworks.
The girls worked for three hours in the morning (missing the special "breakfast in bed", which the faculty and staff served :)) and then met the kids for a walk around campus.
They stopped by the art building.
The CDC was next, where Danae grabbed one of her cherubs for a picture.
Front Campus.
On Monday Bradley, Devon, Donia and Doreen left Germany for a short visit to the States. Since the trip came about rather quickly, we all wanted it to be a surprise for Danae, whose 20th birthday was on Tuesday. The only people who knew about the trip in the States were GFA, the pastors Bradley contacted, Dalene and my mother and daddy. :) And it turned out to be a very special surprise! Donia and Dalene got it on video for us.
A sibling picture in Mary Gaston's lobby, taken by Grandpa Matthia
Bradley had split from the kids in Newark and flown to Cleveland where he was met with the lovely minivan one of our supporting churches in Mentor had offered for the time in the States. What a wonderful blessing! He started the trip south that night yet, overnighted in Ripley, WV and drove the rest of the way Tuesday to catch up with the family in Greenville!
