Monday, July 21st

After almost a week, I finally got a picture of my class--the 5-9 year olds. We took our lessons from the Proverbs. I found a puzzle with a treasure chest on it and jewels that we glued on at the end, and we worked on it as a reminder that we need to search for wisdom as for a treasure. Natascha and her hubby, Sebastian, were wonderful helpers to Carol in the kitchen. Carol headed up the delicious kitchen. She cooks in a family style, not an institution and everybody loves the results! Thank you, Carol! (She plans, shops, cooks --she did some in Germany already--and cleans up!!!)

The Fountains: The Icing on the Cake

In front of an old palace Barcelona puts on a beautiful program of music, fountains and lights several nights a week. This is the last stop for the campers at the end of a long day, and it is beautiful. I hope I can get a video clip to load to give you an idea. A good number of our campers sat behind us. Some enjoyed walking around the fountains. Looking back up from the bottom you can see how many people were sitting on the stairs that lead to the top. Our bus was parked at the top. :)

Up to the Top: The Fort above Barcelona

This old fort is a perfect spot to have supper, although it is a little scary, too. There is a sharp drop-off beyond the wall! It has a super view though, and Bradley let the kids use the telescope to view details in the harbor.

Waiting for the Bus

The kids spent a few minutes climbing around on the huge anchor near our meeting point while Bradley, Doreen and Lynette walked back up to a shop to find a Spanish fan.

The Nautical Museum

At the end of our allotted time we had about an hour to visit the nautical museum. The kids enjoyed exploring the displays that were housed in a former port warehouse. The original port was filled in and is now part of the city. The new port, Spain's main access to the Mediterranean and Atlantic, is to the south.

La Rambla

The La Rambla is a large open market in a long pedestrian zone. I didn't take pictures of the tourist booths and attractions this time, but we went in to the fish market with the kids. Some of the fish were still moving! A stop at Dunkin Donuts was a special treat! Danielle slept through it, but got to enjoy some donut holes later. :)

Lunch at the Gaudi Park

Gaudi, a local architect, wanted to develope a hill side community for the rich to build their homes in. There are mosaic creations scattered throughout the park. This bench "swirls" around a huge plaza.

A Perfect Place for Pictures

This is the whole camp group. As you can see many of us were wearing our camp shirts.

Barcelona -- A Day Trip

Danika and her Daddy enjoying some Sudoku on the way to Barcelona. The trip took about an hour and a half. Eddie, Dustin and Donovan enjoyed an "I Spy" book along the way. Our first stop was the garden of many styles. The favorite section for our campers is always the maze. Danae found her name on a plaque.

The Didgeridoo

At the beginning of camp I had hung up the didgeridoo as part of the Australian decoration, but the campers soon requested to take it down and try it. Our kids took turns trying to play it as well. :)

"Robin Hoods" in the Making

Bradley is in charge of the bows and arrows. Here Donovan got to learn how to shoot. Doreen and Lynette taking a turn Stefan, an older camper, helping Donovan Retrieving the arrows. The net keeps the arrows from getting lost "in the jungle".

Friday at camp

Oldest and youngest sisters (Dalene and Danielle) washing out some clothes together in the early morning. Grandma and Danika on their way to the morning service. It was a great treat to be at camp together. Ruth Fueller playing a game with a group of girls, among whom were Doreen (in the front) and Danika (in back). Donovan and Danielle enjoying the rocks in front of the meeting room.
